Tal-Providenza
€55.00

The chapel of Our Lady of Divine Providence, ‘tal-Providenza’, is an elegant eighteenth century building set in the countryside between Siġġiewi and Għar Lapsi. Inside, beside the main altar, rests a Turkish cannonball about twelve inches across, reputed to be a relic of the Great Siege of 1565, when a regiment of 560 men from Siġġiewi formed part of the defence line of Birgu.

Standing on the edge of Naxxar, the Chapel of San Pawl tat-Tarġa dates from the late seventeenth century. Tradition says Saint Paul paused here to speak to the Maltese after his shipwreck in A.D. 60, a simple tale that still gives the place a quiet sense of history.

Tal-Maqluba
€55.00

Located in the quiet village of Qrendi beside the doline of Maqluba, the church of Saint Matthew tal-Maqluba is in fact two interlinked chapels, the smaller medieval one thought to be among the oldest still standing on the island. Tradition tells that the ground gave way during a violent storm, engulfing those living nearby, while a lone pious woman praying inside survived. The event, so the story goes, formed ‘il-Maqluba’.

Ta' l-Isperanza
€55.00

One of the most cherished chapels in Mosta is that of Our Lady of Good Hope, ‘Il-Madonna ta’ l-Isperanza’, built above a small cave. According to legend, a young girl fleeing Ottoman invaders hid inside and prayed to Our Lady, vowing to build a chapel if she was saved. A spider is said to have spun a web across the entrance, convincing the pursuers that the cave was empty. Grateful for her escape, the girl got permission to build the chapel which was completed around 1761.
